Valley Primary School Children Preparing Year Book

As the public schools in Anguilla, in particular, are being provided with computers to develop their information technology skills, the Valley Primary School is taking a leading role in the use of the equipment.

They first started with the design and publication of a school newspaper and are now preparing a Year Book which they are hoping to put into circulation by June next year.
Among other features, the publication will include photographs of the graduating students, articles and poetry (by them and other schoolmates) as well as writings of a general nature.

They are being assisted with the layout of the Year Book by Graphic Edge and with the photography by Candid Photos. The students are however learning to do much of the work themselves, thus enabling them to develop their graphic art skills.
There is much enthusiasm among the students as they showcase their work in the well-equipped computer lab. A number of teachers are personally supervising them but with a great deal of ease as the students are demonstrating an overwhelming amount of interest in the project which, as a Year Book, will hopefully be around for a long time.

Principal of the school, Allison Hughes, and President of the Parent Teachers’ Association, Pamela Riley, are among the main driving forces behind the Year Book. Another is Rudy Webster, a computer specialist and web designer working with the Government’s Information Technology Department.

Both Ms Hughes and Ms Riley are appealing to the business community to help offset the cost of printing the Year Book by providing it with paid advertisements. The preparatory work is currently in progress in order that there is enough time to produce an informative and well-documented publication.
