The ECCB’s Agency Office Representative in Anguilla, Marilyn Richardson-Bartlette, said at the graduation ceremony on October 19, that the course was a means of empowering the citizens of the Currency Union with basic personal finance and investment skills.
“It provides participants with basic information on budgeting techniques, money management skills and investing,” she explained. “Areas of focus include personal financial planning, factors influencing financial decisions, debt and risk management and the various types of financial markets, just to name a few. It is expected that the knowledge gained will help participants to become more versed in financial matters, set and achieve realistic goals and lead better quality lives.”
The course was made possible through ECCB’s partnership with UWI, the Community College, Ministries of Finance and Education and commercial banks.
The facilitators were Anthony Browne of Nagico Group of Companies, Vanessa Connor and Elvarie Vanterpool of Caribbean Commercial Bank, Janice Proctor of the National Bank of Anguilla, Dr Wycliffe Fahie of the Ministry of Finance, Andrew Niles and Darrell Harrigan of Scotia Bank, Selwyn Horsford of NBA’s Corporate Office, Nigel Street, Financial Services, Lori-Rae Alleyne-Franklin, Statistics and Maglan Lewis-Richardson, Social Security.
