EHU HOLDS AWARENESS DAY CEREMONY Prizes Awarded To Winners


The Environmental Health Unit (EHU) climaxed a month-long Vector Awareness Programme with a closing ceremony and the distribution of awards to winners of various competitions.

The programme was sponsored by the Caribbean Commercial Bank.
Senior Environmental Health Officer, Leroy Richardson, chaired the ceremony and outlined the rationale for the awareness programme which focussed on the control of vectors, rats and other disease-carriers.

Acting Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Social Development, Serene Carter-Davis, spoke at length on the implications of vectors and rats for Anguilla’s economy.
The activities for the 2007 Awareness Programme included the displaying of banners, broadcasting of jingles by preschool children; a Primary School Poster and Theme Competition; a Spelling B Competition involving Campus B students and a Best Kept Cemetery Competition.

The Central Christian School took first and second places in the Poster and Theme Competition. In third place was the Alwyn Allison Primary School.
Pink House won first place in the Spelling B Competition; second was Orange House and third, Yellow House.

In the Jingles Competition, the Church of God of Prophecy Pre-School came first; Ebenezer Pre-School second; and Liz Pre-School third.
The Best Kept Cemetery was won by Ebenezer Methodist Church. Shimei Seventh-day Adventist Tabernacle was second and in third place was the Church of God of Prophecy. The Sandy Ground Public Cemetery was adjudged the most improved burial place.

The awards included trophies, certificates of participation and monetary awards, all funded by the Caribbean Commercial Bank.
