Dr. Simmonds, the first Prime Minister of St. Kitts-Nevis, has been serving in the Anguilla Medical Services for some time now since his retirement from active politics. He is still serving as the Anaesthetist at the Princess Alexandra Hospital in conjunction with his new and substantive duties. He has taken over from Dr. Brainah Kassim, who was serving in the position.
Dr. Simmonds is credited for having “placed no obstacles in the way of Anguilla” during its final bid for formal separation from St. Kitts-Nevis in 1980. He was honoured by the Government here during the Anguilla Day celebrations at the Ronald Webster Park.
His first public appearance since his appointment was when he spoke on Monday, October 22, at the official opening of Dental Week in Anguilla.
“This is the first opportunity I have had in any forum to address the public as the newly-appointed Director of Medical Services in the Health Authority of Anguilla,” he told his listeners. “I would like to use the occasion to thank members of the public who have expressed their congratulations and support. In return, I extend an invitation to all the people of Anguilla to join with the health care services of Anguilla in a “Partnership for Health.”
