Sergeant Chrispen Gumbs, Chairman of the Association, said on Wednesday this week that a dependence fund had been established to provide partial scholarships for the dependent children of fallen police officers during their primary and secondary school years. The arrangement takes the form of the provision of textbooks for the students.

“Today, we celebrate the lives of Sergeant Eric Saunders and PC Jerry Bardouille who no doubt would have been doing the same thing for any of us by providing these textbook scholarships for their dependants,” he said.

He named the recipients as being Shakiem and Rashaad Saunders, children of the late Sergeant Eric Saunders, and Magen and Gerlisa Bardouville, children of the late PC Jerry Bardouville. The children were accompanied by their mothers.

The cheques totalled in excess of EC$3,000 and were presented to the four children by Sergeant Marva Brooks and WPC Amethyst Saunders on behalf of the Police Welfare Association.

Commenting on the occasion, Acting Commissioner of Police, Illidge Richardson, hoped that the fatherless children would regard the scholarship money as a token of appreciation for their wellbeing.
