Lt Matt Rogers conducting Navigation Training
|
Lt Antony Pimm, Signalling and Communications Officer and Lt Matt Rogers, Deputy Navigating Officer, held a Navigation Briefing for members of the Police Marine Unit, HM Customs and Immigration Services at the Sandy Ground Police Station in the morning.
The Briefing taught Relative Velocity and plotting an interception course. Both informative and practical in nature it was not long before the students were deeply involved in solving problems on plotting courses and working out the length of time it would take to intercept a target, using tools such as parallel rulers, dividers, speed/distance/time formula and manoeuvring forms.

Wireless Communications Briefing
|
Sgt Brown of the Police Marine Unit later commented that ‘this was knowledge we needed and it will help us a great deal.’ Barney Gumbs of HM Customs mentioned that the three services ‘work together on a regular basis’ and the knowledge was useful.
Lt Rogers commented that it was also good for the Naval Officers to teach navigation as it ‘refreshes our memories too!’
Meanwhile at the Fire Station at the Wall Blake Airport, two members of the Communications Department conducted a Wireless Briefing, demonstrating correct use of mobile and static communication equipment.
