HMS Portland To Visit Anguilla


HMS Portland, one of the most advanced ships in the Royal Navy will anchor off Road Bay at 0700 on 24 September 2007.

The Commanding Officer, Commander Mike Utley will pay courtesy calls on His Excellency the Governor, Mr Andrew George; the Honourable Chief Minister, Mr Osbourne Fleming and the Acting Commissioner of Police, Mr Illidge Richardson before attending a press conference at the Royal Anguilla Police Force HQ.

Commander Utley and his officers will host a cocktail reception on board the ship on the evening of 24 September. HE the Governor will host a lunch at Government House on 25 September.

The Crew of HMS Portland will take part in various sporting activities against teams from Anguilla, including Cricket, Football and Netball. Members of the Ships Company will also be providing training assistance to various departments of the Government of Anguilla, as well as hosting visits to the ship by local school children. Her Commanding Officer said “We are really looking forward to our visit to Anguilla and the opportunities to conduct training with the Royal Anguilla Police Force and the Anguilla Fire and Rescue Service.”
