Cable And Wireless Provides Greater Speed For Broadband Customers

“It is always exciting when we can come to the public to tell them something that’s pleasant to their ears, and what we are saying today is that for no additional cost we are delivering a minimum of one Meg speed to our customers in Anguilla.” So said Chief Executive of Cable and Wireless, Sutcliffe Hodge, as he reported on Monday this week to the local media on the company’s continuing Internet technological advances for homes and businesses.

“This is an exciting day for Anguilla,” he went on. “When Internet service was first launched in Anguilla just over 10 years ago, the entire island was served with a 64kbps circuit. With today’s announcement our business customer can have an Internet connection that is 96 times faster. We are excited and I hope that our customers are excited too.”

At one Mb per second the one Meg package can download huge documents such as books, online courses as well as long movies and music in a flash to the user’s delight and satisfaction. The astonishing speed also makes it possible to use the facility for security cameras wherever they are located on the island. Even homeowners who are off the island can have peace of mind by using this technological ability to monitor the safety of their properties.

What is even more exciting is that there are even greater speeds up from 2 to 6 Megs, from which customers can derive better broadband Internet services and benefits.

Charmaine Sasso, Head of Data and Internet Services, said: “For the one Meg we have upgraded all our customers to, the price is still $109. It could be lower if you are one of our Smart Choice customers. Those of our customers who previously had one Meg are now up to 2 Megs and here at Cable and Wireless we have three plans for non-business consumers. They are the Mega, Mega Plus and Mega Max: Mega is 1Meg ($109), Mega Plus, 2 ($149) and Maga Max, 3 ($199). We have three plans for our business customers: thePremier which is 3 Megs ($349); Premier Plus which is 4 Megs ($449); and Premier Max, 6 Megs ($649).”

Michael Mussington, IT Manager, pointed out that there were higher speeds on the business plans as well as a static IP to enable anyone around the world to find the business’s website without difficulty. He reported that a local test site had been set up at speed test anguillanet.com. This will enable customers to test the speed of their Internet service.

Lester Forman, Vice President Sales and Marketing, said the higher speeds allowed customers to download music, movies and television series faster, undertake distance learning programmes and make networking connections and downloading quicker and more convenient.

He said Cable and Wireless was looking at ways in which it could assist security of companies and customers with low-cost products. “Customers can install a security system with cameras and can have a modem access to it when they away…to see what is going on while they are abroad.
“There are many things that can be done with this high speed access and we are hoping that customers will enjoy the new speeds and come in to Cable and Wireless to see how they can take advantage of the service.”

Sutcliffe Hodge noted that the launching of the 1Meg minimum service was the dream and vision of the company’s London-based CEO, Harris Jones, over a year ago and that, in addition to Anguilla, it was been launched simultaneously across the entire Caribbean region.
The company’s Chief Executive Officer for the Americas & Caribbean, Chris Hetherington, said the announcement of the 1Meg service was evidence of two things. “First, it reveals our commitment to providing our customers with world-class technology, access to information and the overall best value proposition in the marketplace. Second, it shows that we are delivering on our company’s strategy to maintain and build upon our broadband leadership position in the markets where we operate.”
