Cable and Wireless (Anguilla) Ltd has kindly donated two computers for use by the inmates of Her Majesty’s Prison. This is the first time that there will be brand new computer equipment available for the inmates and it will replace the low-spec and outdated equipment that was previously in use.

The inmates will now have the opportunity to learn word-processing skills and other computer applications, and it is envisaged that timetabled classes will now be introduced for this purpose, administered by one of the prison officers under the auspices of the Sentence Planning Programme.
Sentence Planning focuses on assisting prisoners to change their criminal lifestyle by taking the opportunity to address their offending behaviour and reduce risks. In a planned and coordinated way, the programme aims to meet the individual needs of inmates and prepare them for release and community integration.
The Sentence Planning Programme, which is still in its infancy in Anguilla, is being rolled out in all the prisons in the overseas territories.
Despite the limitations on space within the prison building, a former office is being adapted and equipped to become a functional classroom in which interested inmates can be taught computer skills and improve upon their computer literacy.
HM Prison is grateful to Mr Sutcliffe Hodge, CEO of Cable and Wireless, for making this contribution to the Sentence Planning Programme. HM Prison also wishes to thank other parties and local businesses, who have donated their time and equipment for use in its rehabilitative programmes, including Mr Carl Probenzal who recently donated a VCR / DVD player from Shop 4 Less, Eldorado Mall, to be used for educational purposes.
