Head of Department, Joycelyn Johnson-Carty, said the essays were based on the theme of the week of activities which was “Offender Rehabilitation Benefits the Whole Community.”
The first prize was sponsored by CompNation (Anguilla) and the winner was Kyle Hodge whose award was a computer. Claude Smith, Manager of the business, said the donation was part of the company’s effort to give something back to the community and to youth development.
The second prize was a US$300 book voucher sponsored Cap Juluca and won by Natasha Walker-Richardson. Dr. Phyllis Fleming Banks, the Resort’s Director of Human Resources, congratulated the winner and wished the Department continued success in its work.
The third prize was a US$200 book voucher sponsored by Flag Luxury Properties. That went to Shanice Hodge. Director of Public Relations, Arnie Hodge, stated that Flag was always looking for ways to participate in youth development and other positive activities on the island.
The fourth prize, a US$100 book voucher, was won by Rushane Southerland. It was sponsored by the Department of Probation.
“We were pleased to hand over these awards to the winners,” Mrs. Johnson-Carty said. “While our mandate is managing offenders in the community, we are also happy to be part of positive moves that would deter offending among juveniles.”
She thanked the sponsors for their generous contributions.
