The first course for the season began with Events Planning and Management, facilitated by Mrs. Stephne Goddard. It attracted twelve participants drawn from both the public and private sectors, anda included local ministries, government departments, small and large hotels.
The course lasted five full days, and its content included, but was not limited to, modules such as planning and organizing an event, legal matters pertaining to planning an event, the necessity of insurance, lighting and decorating, marketing, acquiring sponsorship, food and beverage, etiquette and protocol and liaising with the media.
The participants were highly enthusiastic and, as part of the training programme, were required to plan an event as a capstone project at the end of the week. In describing the programme’s success, Mrs. Goddard stated that the group was exceptionally responsive to the information shared with them, and “certainly surpassed her expectations as they did not plan only one event but a series of events to fill a most enjoyable day.”
In their evaluations, the group expressed total satisfaction at the contents of the programme, as well as enthusiasm in becoming professional event planners.
The Community College Development Unit continues the training programmes, over the next three months, which include Food and Beverage Service, Bar Technology, Housekeeping Supervision and Customer Service. There are still a number of places available for these programmes, and interested persons may contact Sharon Richardson, Hospitality Coordinator at the Unit.
