The island’s premier resort, built on Crown Land, was the subject of much discussion in the Executive Council on Wednesday. The talks were expected to continue there on Thursday aimed at approving the sale, plans for the further development of the property and related conditions.

Meanwhile, representatives of the Gencom Group seeking to purchase the hotel are expected in Anguilla shortly and reports indicate that the signing of a purchase agreement with them is imminent.

Several days ago Chief Minister Osbourne Fleming met with staff members of the resort at their request to update them on the progress of the talks and the future of the hotel. Cap Juluca is soon to close for the slow season and the workers are anxious to know about its reopening and the security of their long-held jobs.

There has been another proposal for the purchase of the hotel. It was advanced by Anguilla Tourism Investment Ltd. (ANTIL) in partnership with Auberge-Firesky, a US tourism company now engaged in a large project in St. Kitts.
