Road School Undergoes Total Refurbishing |
| Publishing date: 24.08.2007 11:18 |
When teachers and students return to the Road Primary School in Anguilla, in September, they will be pleasantly surprised and delighted by the beautifully repainted buildings and classrooms, tiled floors, ceiling fans, improved courtyard, extended grounds and playing area as well as other upgrading features they longed for.
All of this, and more, are coming to them as a result of an excellent partnership involving Flag Luxury Properties, Troon Golf, St. Regis and members of the Anguillian community.

Painting of the school building in progress

The work is being financed from almost US$40,000. Of that amount, US$18,000 was raised from a recently-held golf tournament and a walkaton, General Manager of St. Regis, Brian Shultz, told a press briefing on Tuesday at the school. He further said that the three companies donated an additional US$20,000 to finance the project.
Other work done to the buildings include the cleaning of cisterns and filling with new water and the installation of new pumps. There are plans for a Library to be added to the school.
A substantial amount of work has been done to the land area of the school. The once uneven and rock-bound surface of the yard, made worse by exposed large tree roots, has now been covered with top soil and, according to Mr. Shultz, will be overlaid with other material to make it compact and virtually dust-free. This will facilitate recreation for the students in the largely shaded area.

The large area of land cleaned for a playing field

In addition, a large portion of land west of the school, once heavily covered with bush, has been cleared off by Junior Fleming and top soil has been applied to the area. Mr Fleming also did the work in the immediate school yard. Grass will be planted on the new area of land which will serve as a playing field for such sports as cricket, football and basketball.
Mr. Shultz said that Asthrom (Anguilla) Limited, the company carrying out the construction work on the Flag/Temenos Luxury Properties, will be providing the material for the fencing of the school’s compound.
The upgrading work at the school is being carried out mainly by voluntary workers from the participating companies. Mr. Shultz and Dana Schmid, Manager of the Temenos Gold Club, are supervising the Road School project.
