The Criminal Intelligence Unit of the Royal Anguilla Police Force is investigating two fresh shooting incidents as well as a robbery which have added to other similar crimes committed on the island recently.
|
One of the new incidents is the shooting death of Stacy Ann Brooks Laurent. She was shot in her head on Friday evening, August 3, as she sat in the passenger seat of a car driven by her husband. The incident took place in the South Hill area.
Stacy was pronounced dead on arrival at the Princess Alexandra Hospital. Up to her death she was employed as a Security Guard at Wallblake Airport where staff members have mounted wreaths in her memory.
According to the police at least three shots were fired, one hitting Stacey and another striking the door of the vehicle.
This was the second shooting death in Anguilla within a week. The first victim was Devon Ryan of Blowing Point who was shot and killed in a drive-by shooting there on Monday, July 30. Two other young men, Morton Issac and Kevin Richardson, who were wounded in the attack and were sent for further treatment in St. Kitts and Barbados respectively, are recovering from their injuries.
Another recent incident being investigated by the police involves Leroy Mussington who was shot three times and beaten in the South Hill area on July 28. He was sent to Barbados for further treatment.
The police have interviewed and released a number of persons in connection with the incidents and are continuing their investigations. The police have engaged the services of a pathologist and a ballistic expert who are expected on the island shortly. In the meantime they have issued a WANTED notice with respect to Kittitian Devon Chet Otto, who is on the island illegally. They want to question him in relation to the incidents. The notice appears elsewhere in this paper.
Meanwhile, the police are investigating another armed robbery on the island which occurred on August 4 at English Rose Restaurant at about 6 a.m. Two masked and armed assailants robbed Jed Hunt and Claude Gumbs at gun-point and escaped with EC$1,000, cellular phones, gold chains, a watch and other personal items. This is in addition to a similar incident when two armed men staged a robbery at Elato Bar on July 11.
