The tourism representatives were welcomed to Anguilla by Minister of Tourism, Victor Banks. He spoke about the dramatic changes the island had undergone from the difficult years to the present time with a high level of development. Reflecting on the various projects being undertaken, he was of the view that there was a critical need to manage the tourism product and marketing strategies in such a way that Anguilla would benefit greatly.

He said there was a need to control further development and to ensure that Anguillians were empowered not only to benefit from employment in the tourism sector but to become participants in the development.

Director of Tourism, Amelia Vanterpool-Kubish, stated that the meeting was to enable the representatives to review the past year and to look at marketing audits, plans and budgets for the coming season.

Donna Banks, Special Adviser for Tourism, also joined in welcoming the marketing representatives.

Meanwhile, the Director of Tourism told The Anguillian that total budget for the Anguilla Tourist Board amounted to EC$8,918,220. Of that sum, $5,493,470 has been committed to marketing.
