Orange House Scores 1st Place In HAA Quiz


There was an exciting finish to the Second Annual Health Authority of Anguilla-sponsored Quiz Competition in which the five houses of the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School participated on Wednesday, June 6. Much to the excitement of its members, Orange House emerged the winning team in first place.

Orange house members who actually were involved in the quiz were Ashanda Connor, Zhivago Richardson, Diangelo Fleming and Neil Gumbs. Second place was taken by Yellow House whose members were Chevel Leew, Kevois Lake, Kimberley Richardson and Malika Depasois. In third position was Maroon House represented by Shana Smith, Brittany Jeffers, Taitu Kai Goodwin and Clarissa Lloyd.

The other participants represented Pink House and Purple House, which placed fourth and fifth respectively. These were not positions for the award of prizes. The representatives of Pink House were Lauralei Frazer, Owen Hodge and Gerard Mac Donna, who was adjudged individual champion, and Fedalia Richardson. Those from Purple House were Ann Bryan, Melena Halley, Tawnya Richardson and Tiffany Matthews.

The prizes are a trophy for the winning team; plaques for second and third places; a monetary prize for the individual champion and certificates of participation for the others.

A number of students from the competition will be selected to represent Anguilla in a Regional Food & Nutrition school quiz to be held later by the Caribbean Food and Nutrition Institute.

The objectives of the competition were to improve the knowledge of school children and the community about health and health conditions; create awareness of the importance of adapting healthy lifestyles among students and the general public; and increase the knowledge of students and the general public with respect to the role and function of the Health Authority of Anguilla and health services offered.

The Quiz Master was Damien Hughes and the Judges were Civilla Kentish, Senior Health Educator Doreen James, Health Educator and Florence Harrigan, Executive Secretary with the Health Authority.
The competition was preceded by a short opening ceremony during which the welcome was given by Vernice Battick, Coordinator of Nutrition and Health Promotion, who also gave an overview of the annual event. The Vote of Thanks was delivered by Robertha Campbell, Dietetic Technician, who, along with Mrs. Battick, worked closely on the quiz competition.
