The event involved the participation of many children who assisted in the preparation of traditional food and delicacies and some of the girls modelled dresses which depicted the attire of Anguillian women in the 60’s and 70’s. Others wore dresses depicting the national colours of Anguilla. Part of the event also featured different aspects of the cultural life of the island including many of the artefacts used in homes in the early days.

Head of the Department, Shermin Wrensford-Adams, spoke to The Anguillian about the event: “Basically the theme was to compare and contrast traditional dishes and household equipment and clothing of the past to present times. We have clothing and textiles, food and nutrition and home management. In food and nutrition we are featuring old dishes compared with new dishes. For home management are looking at old equipment such as enamel plates, kerosene stoves, the mortar and pestle, the wash boards and so on, compared with the modern washing machines and other new items being used in households today. In clothing and textiles we are comparing and contrasting the old fashions with new fashions.”

Two of the models were Simone Rogers and Natalie Richardson of Form 4 who both thought it was fun. Natalie commented: “I thought it would be nice to experience how I look in these old frocks and I think I look rather nice and that these dresses should be back in style.”
