Business Development and Marketing Officer, Marisa Gumbs, said the contest had exceeded the bank’s expectations with 121 entries. She explained that the contest was aimed at promoting the ongoing drive to enhance children’s writing skills and to serve as a medium whereby they could express their love and appreciation for their mothers.
“We must realise and acknowledge the enormity of a mother’s love, selfless devotion, true commitment, valuable guidance and priceless encouragement,” she stressed.
Miss Gumbs was grateful to the judges, who had a difficult time judging the unique and expressive poems; the teachers who incorporated the poems as part of their English classes and the parents, especially the mothers, for their guidance and inspiration.
There were two categories of contestants: the 5-7 year olds and the 8-10 year olds. In the first category, the winners were in first place: Deanna Richardson of the Stoney Ground Primary School; and second, Jahnesha Jones of the Valley Primary School.
In the second category, the winners were – first place: Vince Webster of the Island Harbour Primary School; and second, Eliano Rey of the Central Christian School.
“At National Bank, we are dedicated to the development of our youth and will continue to institute programmes to aid in such development,” Miss Gumbs added.
