Mr. Fleming announced then that the talks were fruitful and further announced that the specific issue of concession in fees for Anguillians studying in the United Kingdom was raised and Lord Triesman had promised to seriously consider the proposal to parallel the fees to those offered to students from the United Kingdom (UK).

Mr. Fleming wishes to inform all concerned that he has received communications from Lord Triesman which indicates that the issue of Higher Education tuition fees for specified Overseas Territories students was raised as promised with the Ministers responsible for Education in Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. In this communication Lord Triesman has stated that “all of the devolved administrations have confirmed they are contented in principle to extend the home fees status concession to British Overseas Territories students studying in their countries.”

The administrations are in the process of taking the necessary steps to ensure implementation for the 2007/2008 academic year. Mr. Fleming will keep the public updated on this matter and the final effect of this policy change. Mr. Fleming also wishes to express his appreciation to Lord Triesman and others who were involved in this process for their considerations and efforts in making Higher Education more affordable for Anguillians in the UK.
