The announcement was made at a press briefing called on Wednesday, May 16, by Offshore Company Executive Joe Brice, at the offices of Inter-Trust upstairs the Corporate Building of the National Bank of Anguilla.
The 26-strong membership of the visiting Police Orchestra will be under the supervision of Musical Director, Superintendent Piper, and will be performing at the Anguilla Day celebrations with support from the Anguilla Police Community Band under the leadership of Sergeant Coppin, who has welcomed the visit.
The cost of the trip to, and stay in, Anguilla has been jointly undertaken by the Anguilla Government and Inter-Trust, the latter assistance being provided through the courtesy of Mr. Brice.
The visiting band will be presenting an elegant evening of music and dancing on May 29 at the Croquet Court at CuinsinArt Resort & Spa at 8.30 p.m. It will be an after-dinner event. Patrons will therefore have the opportunity to have dinner before the performance, but this would have to be booked directly with the hotel.
Patrons will be seated for the first half of the evening’s performance and the second half will be devoted to dancing. The music will include some classical and some old favourites and other contemporary renditions. Refreshments will be on sale.
Admission to the concert is free. However, patrons are encouraged to make a donation towards the cause of the Church Building Fund. A donation box will be available for this purpose.
Since numbers are limited, persons wishing to attend are requested to register their names and the number of their party by telephoning 497-2189.
The Catholic Church is an important site on Anguilla’s tourism landscape. Along with Wallblake House, it is a much-photographed landmark for visitors. In addition to being a popular tourist offering, it is also a favourite place for worship for both visitors and Anguillians alike and has a special place in Anguilla’s history.
Mr. Brice, Chairman of the Catholic Church Fund-raising Committee, told the press briefing that St. Gerard’s was building a much larger and interesting place of worship “to replace the little quaint Church.” The Fund-raising Committee was also represented by Claire Hage and Manuel Estrada.
General Manager of CusinArt Resort and Spa, Stephane Zaharia, is delighted to have the orchestra performing on the hotel’s grounds for the purpose of raising funds. He welcomed the coming event on behalf of the owner of the property, Leandro Rizzuto, a prominent Catholic and worshipper at St. Gerards when he is in Anguilla.
Principal Assistant Secretary in the Chief Minister’s Office, Evalie Bradley, who has responsibility for the Anguilla Day celebrations, was also delighted that the Royal St. Lucia Police Orchestra will be participating in the Official Parade and other events. She gave an outline of some of the general activities and a list of dignitaries who will be coming to Anguilla from the neighbouring islands for the Anguilla Day celebrations on Wednesday, May 30 and Thursday, May 31, both public holidays.
