In their Wednesday press briefing, the Police further reported on a raid carried out in the bush area at Welches at lunchtime on Sunday, May 6. In that raid, involving twenty police officers, 54 persons said to have been at an illegal cock fight, were detained by the police.

The raid drew some criticism from a number of persons which the police dismissed.

Those detained were searched and all money found n their possession was confiscated and they were advised that they might be summoned to appear before the Magistrate.

Sixteen birds were found at the cock fight area, were examined by a Vet and taken in police custody.

The police noted that some of the persons were accompanied by their children, a number of them of primary school age. No action will be taken against the children but the police felt their presence at such an event was wholly inappropriate.
