Mr. Banks, who was accompanied to St. Maarten by a delegation on May 4, expressed Government’s appreciation for WINAIR’s service and support to Anguilla’s tourism industry over its 40 years of operations.

Mr. Banks is working to secure the continuity of the air service between the two islands on a scheduled basis, according to a Government release.

“The figures for tourists travelling between the two islands indicate that there is significant growth and the discontinuation of a regular service will have far-reaching consequences for Anguilla as a final destination and the linkages with other Caribbean destinations.

“WINAIR has already announced it would be terminating the St. Maarten-Anguilla route as of Tuesday 15th May 2007.”

Mr. Banks was expected to resume his talks with the airline on Thursday and Friday this week.
