NAPA Presents Footballs To Children

Over the past days, NAPA Auto Parts in Anguilla has made presentations of six footballs to various schools on the island aimed at promoting the sport of football and developing the playing skills of the children.

One such presentation was made at the Island Harbour Primary School on Tuesday this week by NAPA’s Executive Officer in Anguilla, Cardigan Hodge, to the Principal, Susan Smith. He was particularly delighted on this occasion as he was born and grew up in Island Harbour.

“We thought we should give something back to the community,” he said in a brief address. “A number of the primary schools and the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School have received balls already and we will be making distributions to others. That’s NAPA’s way of helping the youth of today who will be the leaders of tomorrow.”
The Principal thanked NAPA for contributing to the development of the youth at Island Harbour. “If ever there is a time when we want people to contribute to our youth, it is now when we have so many negative things plaguing our society,” she said.

Mrs. Smith told The Anguillian that the children at the school were very much involved in football. They started playing the game in September last year and played in the National Bank of Anguilla-sponsored Football Tournament. “They did not win any games, but we must applaud their efforts because they had only been practising for two to three months,” she stated. “I would like to thank their coach, Miguel Walker, who has been working really hard with them. Even though the tournament is ended he still works with them on a weekly basis.”
Walker, a native of St. Vincent, said it was taking some time but the children were coming on very well with their football. “They are enthusiastic about the game and have the potential and I will continue working with them,” he added.

The Sports Coordinator is Marsha Harrigan, a teacher at the school.
