Mr. Rey told The Anguillian on Tuesday that following the work by his team the proposed legislation and regulations will be taken to the public for consultation before the start of the new school year in September coming.
“We are presently engaged in reviewing the draft regulations,” Mr. Rey went on. “We have already done the draft Education Act and pretty soon we will be inviting all education stakeholders to sessions to look at the provisions for the new Act and regulations.”
Chief Education Officer, Rhonda Connor, said: “We are in the process of revising our education regulations to make sure that they are in sync with the Education Act.”
Pressed to comment further, she continued: “There are some sections that were missing from the previous document which we have to ensure are included in this new document. For example, these include sections on the rights and responsibilities of students and parents. There is a section which deals with discipline, suspension and expulsion of students and it provides guidelines on how we should go about doing that.
“There are also sections on such matters as security and home-schooling. The regulations will give the Education Act the teeth so that it could be enforced. Without them it would be impossible to enact the legislation.”
