Kyle Hodge Wins Optimist Oratorical Contest


Kyle Hodge is the local winner of the Optimist Club of Anguilla 2007 Oratorical Contest.

Canita Ruan placed second followed by Sierra Richardson third.

Hodge, Ruan and Richardson were among seven participants under the age of sixteen competing for an opportunity to eventually win a scholarship grant.
The participants – three males and four females spoke on the topic My Biggest Challenge Is for a minimum of four and maximum of five minutes.

Hodge and Ruan will now go on to compete in the Caribbean district level where two winners will receive plaques and college scholarships.

The Oratorical contest is the longest running programme sponsored by Optimist International.

It is designed for youth to gain experience in public speaking and provide them with the opportunity to compete for a college scholarship.

The contest took place at the public gallery of the Atlin Noraldo Harrigan Parliamentary Building on Saturday afternoon.
