A Plea for Help!
I am telling my story to make Anguillans, belongers, residents, and visitors aware of what Anguilla is becoming.
|
Sadly to say, it finally happened to us after living here peacefully for 22 years. Just before 5 am on March 4th, 2 young men with Anguillan accents, armed with a knife and pistol came into our home and woke us up demanding our money. One of them tried to fondle me but stopped when I said, “What are you doing, I am a 60 yr. old woman.” If he had continued my husband may have been killed trying to protect me.
Now our lives have changed forever! We now have a locked home with a security system and dogs to warn us and scare off any intruders. At night in bed we look at our locked doors, not the moonlit Rendezvous Bay we love so much. The worst part of it all is not being able to trust anyone any more.
It is not too late to stop our island from losing its innocence:
· Stop your talking and take action! Get to know your local constable and let him know when you see illegal or suspicious activities.
· Insist that our leaders use some of the increased revenue from growth to create a state of the art police system for the island including video surveillance and advanced training for our police force.
· Create a rehabilitation system for our young people who are in trouble. Let us not abandon our troubled youth or we will be doomed to fall with them.
This cycle of violence is escalating; don’t wait until it happens to you!
Sincerely,
Althea Turner
