Special Needs Teachers Honoured |

Teachers Olive Jacobs and Janice Hodge were the honoured guests at the Special Needs Teachers’ Appreciation Dinner held at the Overlook Restaurant in South Hill on Saturday last. Ms. Jacobs and Teacher Janice were awarded by their fellow teachers for their charisma and exemplary work in the area of Special Education.

Ms. Olive Jacobs, who is currently a teacher at the Albena Lake Hodge Comprehensive School, Campus B, began her teaching career in 1973 in St.Vincent where she taught for one year before moving to Anguilla. In Anguilla, she taught in e arlier years, at the Island Harbour Primary School and Valley Primary and Road Primary Schools. Her formal training as a teacher includes St.Vincent and the Grenadines Teachers’ College (1979) and MICO Teachers College (1998) in Jamaica. Ms. Jacobs is described by her collegues as quiet, reserved and committed. When asked if given the opportunity to choose a different profession, what would it be? she remarked, “Special Needs Again”.

Tr. Janice who loves to see her children’s faces light up when they have learnt something new, began her teaching career in 1969. Her teaching experience was at the Valley Primary and Road Primary schools. Her teaching qualifications include Antigua Teachers’ College and MICO Teachers College in Jamaica. She is currently the Special Needs teacher at Road Primary School.
Teachers Olive and Janice have both made valuable contributions to the children of Anguilla and deserve to be commended.
