In making the announcement at a press briefing on Tuesday, March 6, NBA’s Business Development and Market Research Officer, Marisa Gumbs, said that although Miss Harrigan’s life was spared, she had lost one of the basic necessities of life – her shelter.

She stated that Miss Harrigan had obtained a lot of land and was planning to begin construction of a new residence shortly. Miss Gumbs hoped that the money would go a long way towards assisting her in building her house. “At NBA, we are a community institution and we do not only see this as our corporate duty to assist her in this time of need, but all empathise with her and her loss.”

The Bank’s Chief Executive Officer, E. Valentine Banks, said Miss Harrigan’s loss had to be traumatic and she must be experiencing some difficulties at this time. “The fact that she has decided to build and got some support in terms of land, is very encouraging and I wish to further encourage her to move her life forward,” Mr. Banks stated. “She has a young family and they are certainly looking to her for guidance and support and it is critical that she be positive in going forward.”

Mr. Banks hoped that the contribution by NBA would go some way towards assisting Miss Harrigan. He called on the Anguillian community to recognise the difficulties which she was facing and recalled that there was another incident in which a second family were victims of a fire.

He hoped that other businesses would join the National Bank in contributing to a real and worth cause.
