During these days she will perform examinations of patients, interpret and provide written and electronic reports on patients’ medical condition. Included in her contractual engagement is the assessment and diagnosis of patients currently seen at home, the homeless and prisoners. Apart from these on-site services, Dr. Jurgensen will provide telephonic consultations when she is off-island with follow-up care provided by a physician.

Dr. Jurgensen is a graduate of the University of the West Indies in medicine with a post graduate degree in psychiatry. She has had over 15 years of hands-on experience in the provision of management of hospital and community psychiatry services and is therefore adequately trained to meet the growing demands in Anguilla.

Mr. James further indicated that the Board of Directors has given the approval for the recruitment of a full-time psychiatrist and steps are on the way towards this recruitment.

This recruitment is in preparedness for the commissioning of the 10-bed acute psychiatric unit at the hospital.
