The donations were announced by Chairman of Fair Play Management Services, Quincy Gumbs, whose Group of Companies includes a NAGICO branch office. The contributions were made as the insurance company observes its 25th Anniversary in St.Maarten and its 24th year in Anguilla.
Mr. Gumbs told a local press conference on Tuesday this week that NAGICO had donated US$9,000 for the sponsorship of the March 30 Annual Road Race to be held by the Albena Lake-Hodge Comprehensive School. It was a substantial increase over the US$4,000 previously donated for the same purpose. Some 600 student athletes are expected to participate in the road race.
Deputy Principal Melsadis Fleming was grateful for NAGICO’s liberal donation and continuing sponsorship of the school’s road race for the third year. Similar expressions of gratitude were made by Physical Educator, Rollins Richardson.
Mr. Gumbs also announced a donation of US$5,000 to the Anguilla Diabetes Association, noting that the disease had become an expensive health concern on the island. He observed the ravages which diabetes was causing in the lives of an increasing number of persons and pledged, as a diabetic himself, to do all he could in assisting the Association with its work.
President of the Diabetes Association, Lynnette Rogers, who was accompanied by colleague Dana Ruan, thanked Mr. Gumbs and NAGICO for the appreciably large contribution. She said the money would be committed to financing various planned events as well as purchasing equipment for the testing of diabetics to determine their blood sugar levels in preparation for treatment.
Mr. Gumbs took the opportunity to outline various matters in connection with the growth of NAGICO and its coverage in Anguilla. He was pleased that among its valued customers was Stanley Mussington who had benefited from the services of the company following a serious accident. Mr. Mussington was present at the event and gave an account of his experience, published elsewhere in this edition of The Anguillian.
Among those present was Glenville Blake, NAGICO’s Chief Financial Officer in St. Maarten, who spoke mainly on the development of the company over the years.
The event was chaired by the company’s branch officer in Anguilla, Jamaican Rita-Ann Francis, who also spoke on the expansion and services of NAGICO.
