ANOTHER HOUSE GOES UP IN FLAMES Family Needs Help

In three weeks, another dwelling house in Anguilla has been destroyed by fire leaving the occupants homeless and robbed of their personal belongings. This time it is Dorcity Connor (Dots) and her daughter Cherie. They were residing at North Valley in rented accommodation owned by Victor Richardson.

The small semi-traditional house, with components of concrete, wood and galvanize, was gutted by the fire late Tuesday evening, February 6. According to Dots, the house was apparently ignited by a candle which, in the absence of electricity, was used to provide light in the home.

The Anguilla Fire Services, manned by personnel from the Fire Department at Wallblake Airport, brought the flames under control. Up to Wednesday morning whiffs of smoke were still rising from the burnt-out remains.

The family has taken refuge with relatives and friends. Dots is staying with her cousin, Jackie Banjit at Roaches Hill, where she spent much time previously.

The destructive fire has left the family badly in need of assistance. Philanthropic organisations and individuals are being urged to make appropriate donations to these new fire victims.

On January 21, Vera Harrigan and her two young children lost their home in Deep Waters when an apparent faulty gas line caused an explosion in the kitchen. Since then, that family has been, and continues to be, the recipient of much assistance.
