Dexter James Of The Health Authority Addresses Local Rotary Club |
| Publishing date: 09.02.2007 09:15 |
At the regular meeting of the Rotary Club of Anguilla last Thursday, February 1, Dexter James of the Health Authority of Anguilla presented to the Rotary Club members preliminary information on investigations concerning the development of an ophthalmic centre for Anguilla. Because ophthalmic surgery is currently provided only in St. Maarten, such a centre in Anguilla would be beneficial to the island residents. The Rotary Club of Anguilla is desirous of partnering with the Health Authority in this regard should a center become a viable project.

Establishment of an ophthalmic centre would fit into the strategic direction of the HAA and the priority area of the National Strategic Plan for Health (2003-2008). With preventive measures, many residents of Anguilla could take steps to prevent blindness – a very serious and unnecessary consequence of glaucoma and diabetes.
Rotary is an organization of business and professional leaders, united worldwide, who provide humanitarian service, encourage high ethical standards in all vocations and help build goodwill and peace in the world.
