The other stamp, with a value of $2.75, focuses on the immense social and economic impact made by the late Alecia Ballin, one of the club’s past charter members.

“The entrepreneurial spirit of this progressive women led to the establishment of several business enterprises which have created long-term employment for many Anguillians and helped to better develop the private business sector,” a pamphlet on the stamps stated.

The stamps were launched at a ceremony held in the lobby area of the Post Office, chaired by Soroptimist Violet Berry.

Minister of Finance, Victor Banks, praised the Soroptimist Club and Mrs. Ballin for their years of contribution to the social and economic life of the island. He urged the organisation to continue to serve the island well and noted that there were other members who also deserved recognition. He was grateful for the support the club had given the government since its establishment.

Postmaster General, Jackie Niles, thanked the Soroptimist Club on behalf of the Post Office and the Ministry of Finance for coming forward to support the Philatelic Bureau in its work of commemorating important occasions through the issuing of commemorative stamps. She invited other organisations to follow the leading of the club.
