Cargo Aircraft Makes Inaugural Flight To Anguilla

Businessmen in Anguilla can now have a substantial portion of their merchandise flown directly to the island by a cargo air service, thanks to Colin Connor, an Anguillian pilot and aviator who resides in the United States.

Connor, whose parents are Colin and Doriel Connor of Blowing Point, comes from a lineage of Anguillian seafarers and aviators including Chrissy Connor, Maurice Connor and Restormel Franklin.

In November 2006, the young pilot created an Anguillian-based company called Fast Fwd Shipping. It is a third party logistics company providing freight forwarding throughout the United States and the Caribbean.

“We have incorporated the use of several different types of aircraft,” a release from Colin Connor stated. “For the inaugural flight to Anguilla on December 22, 2006, we flew the Conviar 440. This aircraft was built by Consolidated Vultee back in the late 1950s and has a capacity of 13,000 pounds of freight carry payload. It can fly 1,700 miles non-stop which gives it the ability to fly from Miami direct to Anguilla with a full payload.”

The release continued: “We are hoping with the patronage of Anguilla and the Anguillian community in the United States that Fast Fwd will be able to provide at least three flights per week to Anguilla, St. Thomas and St. Croix [with] the possibility of expanding throughout the Caribbean, placing Anguilla again on the pinnacle of the aviation scene.

“Fast Fwd would like to thank our first customers for their patronage and their support for the inaugural flight to Anguilla: CompNation Anguilla – Claude Smith, Jeff Wilson and staff; Kamique Properties – Ira and Bonnie Bloom; Terry McDonna of Brothers Auto Parts; Terry Hodge of JTC Brokerage and Kurt Richardson of Rendezvous Bay Hotel.”
