Valley Committee Praised For Christmas Tree Lighting |

The Valley Community Annual Christmas Tree Lighting event, which continues until January 1, has been hailed as another success this year.

Milling throng at Tree Lighting Ceremony

Since the opening of the series of cultural activities, a week ago, there has been a large crowd each night at the main stage at the tamarind tree and trough outside the Agricultural Department.
At the opening ceremony, Minister of Finance and Elected Representative for the Valley constituency, Victor Banks, praised the committee for its work and for taking up the challenge to contribute each year, at Christmas time, to the social and cultural life of the island.

The ceremony was also addressed by Christonie Fleming in his capacity as Acting Chief Executive of Cable & Wireless. He joined in congratulating the organisers of the event and offered his best wishes for an enjoyable time for all.
The varied performances by artistes from Anguilla and neighbouring islands included string bands, calypso and other forms of entertainment in music and song.

Some fifty trees at Coronation Avenue as well as the grounds of the Anguilla Tourist Board and the Agricultural Department have been lit up and decorated for the event.
The platinum sponsor is Cable & Wireless which has committed itself to providing up to US$20,000 annually for the event. There are also a number of other sponsors listed on display boards at the entrance to Coronation Avenue.
The Government has provided a fixed concrete stage for the performances.
