Many persons, including those who frequent the waters at Crocus Bay, were surprised when a tiger shark turned up there several days ago and was caught by alert fishermen.

Marine Biologist Stuart P. Wayne said that although “it had no body bars” he concluded that it was a tiger shark due to the shape of its body. He came to that conclusion after looking at its wide mouth, broad nose, barrel chest, slender base of tail and teeth.
According to him, body bars are most pronounced in juveniles and fade or disappear in adults.

Mr. Wayne added that judging from its size, the Crocus Bay shark was an adult.
