Its been over 10 years now and Cable & Wireless continues its tradition of sponsoring a Christmas lunch for the residents and staff of the Miriam Gumbs Senior Citizens Home. It is has become routine for various businesses to sponsor lunch for the Senior Citizens and the care-givers especially at Christmas, and this custom has grown more popular over the last few years.
When Cable & Wireless first introduced this activity back in the mid-90’s it was quite a novel idea and far fewer private enterprises were involved. Mr Sutcliffe Hodge, Chief Executive Cable & Wireless expressed his pride at the fact that Cable & Wireless was the company which started this wonderful tradition and is pleased to see that so many other businesses have followed suit. In the words of Susan ‘Zanny’ Brooks, Care-Assistant at the home, ‘Cable & Wireless started it. It was the December after ‘Luis’ and it was a wonderful thing then. Now lots of other business and churches have joined in and made it even better!’.
