Maissen is the founder and principal of Maissen Consultants, a California based company that provides executive level hospitality management services. He carries with him more than 30 years of experience in the hotel industry, of which seven years were spent as managing director of the Hotel Bel-Air (Grand Hotel), Cap Ferret, France and vice-president of operations for the Bel-Air Group during the two years the hotel was under Bel-Air’s management. He planned and executed a total refurbishment of the Grand Hotel du Cap Ferret, bringing it back to its old splendor and regaining its status of one of Europe’s most affluent resorts. His term with Bel-Air also included a stint at the K Club in Barbuda.

Prior to his tenure at Grand Hotel du Cap Ferrat, Maissen held various senior management positions throughout the world, including regional director for Marriott Hotels-Saudi Arabia. He oversaw the opening of three Marriott Hotels, as well as the opening of the Athens Marriott in Greece. Additionally, Maissen held the position of director of beverage for the Trusthouse Forte Group of 380 hotels.

Mr. Maissen’s main goal at Cap Juluca is to support the management team and staff and ensure the stability of the hotel during the sale process. “Change is always a difficult time” he says “ but a change in ownership does not mean a change in the level of service that we provide the guests. I believe strongly that the biggest asset of any organization is its staff. I am looking forward to working with and supporting this wonderful team of Julucans”.

Maissen began his career working in the kitchen of his father’s restaurant in Switzerland. From there, he spent seven years in various kitchens throughout Switzerland before entering and graduating from the Zurich Hotel School. He then joined the Intercontinental Hotel chain in Geneva as a restaurant cashier and worked his way up within Intercontinental through all hotel departments in such countries as Switzerland, England, Germany and West Africa, ending up as manager of Intercontinental-Dubai, United Arab Emirates. During his time with Intercontinental, he handled the pre-opening and opening of the Intercontinental Libereville, Gabon, and Intercontinental Hyde Park Corner in London. He speaks five languages: English, French, Italian, German and Spanish.

Cap Juluca, which employs more than 400 people, started its 19th season of operation on October 28th, after undergoing a US$2.5 million refurbishment. The 98-room property has won numerous awards over the years, including the recent distinction as the number one resort in the Caribbean by Andrew Harper’s Hideaway Report.
