He was charged with the importation and possession of a controlled drug and following his arrest was granted bail. He will stand trial at a later date.
A spokesman for the Customs Department, pleased with the detection capability of the machine, thanked and congratulated the United Kingdom Government and the Governor’s Office in Anguilla for donating the equipment to the department. He further stated that the machine would be used to is maximum as of now and that it has the capability of detecting illicit goods no matter the method of concealment.
The officers who made the seizure were highly commended for the seizure and he attributed their alertness to a Behavioral Analysis Observational Technique Course which they attended. The course was conducted by Rover Tech International, a private company based in Florida, which provides training for Customs Agencies and other Law Enforcement Agencies throughout the region and the United States.
The spokesman emphasised that the Customs Department will continue to be vigilant in its efforts at detecting and combating the importation of illicit goods into Anguilla. He stated that special attention was being placed on the importation of drugs and firearms which are increasingly becoming a menace to Anguillian society.
