Sombrero Wahoo Prompt Webster & Smith Fishing Competition Again!

The pictured 35 pound Wahoo caught by Patrick Webster on the 300 foot drop at Sombrero signals another season of bragging rights at Island Harbour and Anguilla at large.

As readers of The Anguillian already know the spirited bragging rights far exceed the price per pound of the fish or even the thrill of reeling in the catch. It is more so that one fisherman triumphs over his friend and neighbor for that day or excursion.

On this day Patrick caught two beautiful Wahoo fish that was taken by the Sand Pipers Restaurant on Shoal Bay East and Paradise Cove on the West End.

The Anguillian Newspaper encourages these young men in hopes of gaining periodic favor of sharing small but delectable samples of fresh catch. More so thought we hope to keep our readers informed about the bounty of our beautiful sea and one of our important traditional industries.

In a related story, brothers Roger and Trivon Smith enjoy fishing together. As the bragging rights kick off their first catch for the season, just outside Scrub Island, they brought in 56 Dolphins and 18 Wahoos. The biggest of the Wahoos weighed 77 lbs.

As the saying goes: When they are catching Wahoos, they are known as the “Wahoo Strikers”, when catching Jacks, they are known as the “Jack Masters.”

Just who will win the bragging rights this season, will be known later.

“All Fishermen Get On Board,” as the song says, and earn some bragging rights.
