Health Personnel Look At Work Related Issues |
| Publishing date: 24.11.2006 09:45 |
Senior personnel with the Anguilla Health Authority have been looking at various matters relating to a wide-range of employee relationship issues which usually crop up at the job place and how to deal effectively with them.
|
The health workers were at the time attending a two-day workshop conducted, at the Soroptimist Club’s conference room, by two visiting facilitators late last week. They were Clearie Brown, Employee Relations Manager and Coordinator at the Department of Human Resources in the British Virgin Islands, and Noreen Callwood-Lewis, a Professional Counsellor.
They were invited to Anguilla by the Human Resources Department of the Health Authority, headed by Meredith Gumbs, to speak on the Employee Assistant Programme in the BVI and how it can benefit health and other workers in Anguilla.
Among the benefits outlined were a highly confidential and safe environment for the release of stress and pressure; service training that coincides with current or anticipated policy and procedures; officers can come to terms with difficult situations in a positive and effective manner; clear personal and career goals are worked out; there is increased personal job satisfaction and employee retainability; there is increased motivation, confidence and self-worth; the professional and personal development of employees are enhanced; there is increased job performance and productivity and increased quality services to the public.
An Employee Assistance Programme is designed to assist employees in addressing a wide range of personal or work-related problems. The programme furnishes professional counsellors who provide confidential assessment, render short-term counselling and professional referrals to employees who need help to overcome behavioural problems that undermine work performance. Employees may receive confidential assistance for a variety of personal difficulties ranging from family, marital, legal and financial issues, career problems or other personal stress-related issues.
