Anguilla is benefiting from an increased amount of publicity since the official opening of the island’s first golf course on Friday, November 3, with the children of the island inaugurating the up-market facility by striking the initial shots.

The ceremony was held at the 10th hole of the Temenos Golf Club at the St. Regis Resort & Residences.

Of much interest was the presence of golf legend, Greg Norman, who designed the 18-hole championship course, an integral component of the magnificent St. Regis Resort, Temenos, Anguilla, scheduled for completion in the winter of 2008. The famous golfer gave several opening shots at the ceremony.

In a recent media release, Mr. Norman was quoted as saying: “I am honoured to have been selected to design Anguilla’s first ever golf course. The opening of the Temenos Golf Club is a testimony to the integrity of the Anguilla Government, Flag Luxury Properties and St. Regis Hotels & Resorts in their commitment to this project. I am thrilled to have been involved in such a monumental occasion in the island’s history.”

The course is being managed by Troon Golf, the leader in upscale golf course management, development and marketing.

The media release also stated that “the exclusive Temenos Golf Club will be enjoyed by both owners of the resort’s spectacular residences and St. Regis guests alike, with access to the course provided to local Anguillians and guests of other hotels in the area if availability permits.”
