The telecommunications company which began its services in Anguilla in 1971 in the back of a trailer truck now has its own sprawling Telecoms House in The Valley with stations elsewhere on the island. There has been a tremendous growth in its services over the years and with the addition of the now five-year-old Regional Contact Centre has even more boosted its service in Anguilla and beyond.
Staff members, including Chief Executive Officer, Sutcliffe Hodge, and others of the Management Team, attended the worship service at St. Augustine’s Anglican Church on Sunday, October 29. They were welcomed by Assistant Priest Reverend Menes Hodge, who commended Cable and Wireless for its services to the people of Anguilla.
Monday was Health Day in the Front Office area of Cable and Wireless where customers and staff heard presentations on HIV/AIDS, diabetes and hypertension and had blood sugar and pressure levels checked.

In a radio broadcast, Mr. Hodge thanked the Government and people of Anguilla for their support over the years. He was also grateful to his staff. “You have made it all happen for our valued customs. Thank you for allowing me to be your coach and cheerleader,” he said. He noted that the company had grown over the 35 years to meet the changing telecommunication needs of the island.
“When the company started operating in Anguilla it relied on technical personal from outside the island, primarily from the United Kingdom, to run the business.” Hodge stated. “Over the years many Anguillians rose to the challenge and became qualified to perform these duties. Today in 2006 the entire operation here in Anguilla is being run by Anguillians with a few staff members from other islands within the region. As Anguillians, and Caribbean people, we ought to be extremely proud of what has been achieved in such a short time.”
