In July 2004. Mrs Richardson enrolled in the said programme of study after receiving a partial Commonwealth scholarship, as well as utilizing personal finances and financial assistance from her family. The course was delivered through both long distance and on-campus teaching where independent study (including course assignments and exams) was done in Anguilla and direct classroom teaching was done in Barbados during a two-week period in each semester.
In commenting on her experience, Mrs Richardson intimated a sense of pride and high achievement, especially as she had to balance study and still give of her best as a fulltime teacher and Head of the Business Department at her workplace here in Anguilla. All this time her attention had to be given to her family’s business, the Palm Grove Restaurant, which she co-manages. Mrs Richardson is also a wife and the mother of two children.
In addition to the opportunity accorded her to pursue postgraduate studies, Mrs Richardson says that her decision to capitalize on such was intended not only for her personal and professional edification, but also to serve as a model for her son and nephew who are currently enrolled at the Devry University in Miami.
She advised these individuals that even at her age with work and family life demands, they could succeed once there is a positive mindset.
Mrs Richardson thanks God, her husband Nat, her mother Olive; her siblings, Ken, Gary, Tim, Benny, Diane and her children, Theon and Natalie, who supported her along the way. She also thanks her co-workers, particularly those in Staff room B, for their support and encouragement from beginning to the end of the programme. She takes this opportunity to also encourage others to pursue studies since, although the task is arduous, the experience is ultimately fulfilling and the benefits last a lifetime.
