Anguillian Retires From US Navy |

An Anguillian woman, who achieved a top position in the United States Navy, has gone into retirement after 27 years of excellent service.

Vera A. Hughes
|
She is former Senior Chief Hospital Corpsman with the Fleet Marine Force, Vera A. Hughes, originally of Long Bay, Anguilla, and now a resident of St. Thomas, US Virgin Islands.
Her duty stations have included the Naval Hospital in Philadelphia, where she worked as a general duty Ward Corpsman; the Naval Hospital at Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, working as a Basic Laboratory Technician; Naval Hospital Bethesada, in Maryland, where she attended the Advanced Laboratory Technical School; Naval Hospital Lemoore in California, where she worked as the Hermatology and Immunology Technician and the Medical Centre in San Diego, California, where she worked as a Blood and Microbiology Technician.
She later became an instructor at the Naval School of Health Services, in San Diego, where she earned an Associate faculty position with George Washington University. She was also promoted to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Senior Chief Hughes has obtained a Bachelor of Science Degree from Southern Illinois University and is currently completing a thesis for a Master of Education through Central Michigan University.
