Stephenie Brooks, Manager, was delighted at the interest displayed by the local artists. “We definitely have some hidden talent here in Anguilla and Digicel’s Rising Stars provides the opportunity for singers to come out and show their singing abilities. I must say I was surprised at who turned out as I had no idea that we have so many singers among us.”
Twenty-two contestants and two groups sang before a panel of three local judges. Daphne Jacobs Richardson, Lennox Vanterpool and Carlton Pickering provided straight but constructive criticism that was always tempered with encouragement and helpful tips to make future performances better.
The contestants represented a wide range of genre – from gospel to rap as well as experience; there were seasoned performers as well as those who had never sang in a public forum. All of the contestants sang acapella although they were allowed a simple accompaniment such as a keyboard or guitar.

Competition was fierce as evidenced by the closeness of the scores among contestants. One of the judges commented, “There was so much talent coming into the auditions. I wish we could’ve chosen ten instead of four.”
The four chosen to move to the next round are Catriona Lake, Roy Bryson (AKA Drak New York), Malynda Romney and Vetlyn Richardson. These four contestants were taped and their performances will be televised on Sunday, September 24th on KCN, channel 12 at 7 pm. Be sure to tune in.
All mobile customers are encouraged to text and vote for the contestant who they believe should be Digicel’s next Rising Star. Texting is open to all mobile customers throughout the Caribbean not just Digicel customers. If you are unable to text in your vote, please contact your mobile provider.
