Avenue Of Palms

The Editor
The Anguillian

Dear Sir:

Although the new “Avenue of Palms” at the airport looks good (or rather will look good when they have settled and the whole area has been cleaned of rubbish, rocks and wires), I just want to ask one question.

Whose idea was it to cut down that old tree that used to jut out in the road? That was a beautiful old tree and did not need to be destroyed. There are not enough old trees left in Anguilla and to do this is a barbaric act. Save the beautiful environment that Anguilla has and leave the old trees. I do hope that the wood has been given to local artists so that some talented youngsters can fashion some carved artwork from the remains of the tree.

We need to save our trees to help keep Anguilla a beautiful place and we should also encourage our youth to learn about trees. In addition, we can get some of the big project developers on the island to sponsor tree-planting programmes to keep Anguilla green.
