NBA's Boat Race And Fun Day Attract Large Crowd |

Sandy Ground Beach was the scene of much social activity on Sunday, July 16, attracting a large crowd from throughout the island. The occasion was the 2nd Annual National Bank of Anguilla Peter Perkins Memorial Boat Race and Fun Day Village Games.

The Fun Day activities began at around 12 noon with the first event being the bicycle race. This was won by last year’s champion Lisa Romney who represented the Blowing Point Team which wore the t-shirts advertising NBA’s Loans.

The Stoney Ground team, which represented NBAs Internet Banking, scored a total of 67 points, thus becoming the 2006 NBA Fun Day Village Games Champion. The Valley Community Team, representing NBA’s Career Enhancer Loan Combo, placed second with 49 points.

There was a tie in third place with 36 points between the Blowing Point Team, last year’s champions, and the combined East End/Sandy Hill Team which represented NBA’s International Debit Card.
There was a short intermission in the games at about 2.00 p.m. for the beginning of the boat race in which nine boats sailed to Rendezvous Bay and back. Light & Peace placed first; The Warrior, second; De Tree, third; Super Star, fourth; and UFO, fifth.
The National Bank said in a statement: “NBA’s objective of this event, which is to foster friendly rivalry among the Anguillian villages and promote unity, was strongly achieved.
There were teams representing the various villages in Anguilla, co-existing and competing against each other in a spirit of fun. The event was well-attended and enjoyed by all who went out to support the various teams.”
