ANGLEC FUEL CHARGES

The Editor
The Anguillian

Dear Sir,

ANGLEC FUEL CHARGES

I would be grateful if you could provide space in your paper to publish a matter I consider to be of great concern to all and sundry.

For several months now I have been observing a steady outrageous increase in my electricity bill. A breakdown of my June bill is as follows: Current charges $328.02, Fixed Charges $5.25, Fuel charges $116.06. a total of $449.33. The fuel charges represent 25.83% of the actual bill.

On making an inquiry regarding the ridiculous high fuel charges, I was informed that Anglec has an agreement with Government for the buying price of Fuel (Diesel Oil) at $3.68 per gallon. This agreement, I was told occurred in 1991. Today’s price at the pumps for diesel oil is $9.54. Consumers are therefore asked to pay Anglec on the extra $5.86.

WHY? I was calmly informed that Anglec arranged meetings to discuss a new agreed price for fuel but Government representatives failed to attend. As a result, Anglec has no alternative but to charge the consumer (based on the agreement made fifteen years ago) until Government meets to change the existing agreement.

The first question: Who benefits if the fuel price is not changed? The owner of course! The second question: Who is the owner? Now do the Maths.

Perhaps Ministers have been too busy discussing “PITTANCE” matters to be concerned about attending Anglec’s meetings to address the plight of us (elites I suppose) who could therefore afford to pay the outrageous Fuel Charges.

Yours Sincerely,
Concerned Citizen
