Highly-Charged Contestants For Pageant


This year, six highly-motivated young ladies are vying for the coveted Miss CCB Teen Pageant title. Five of them were presented to the local media on Tuesday, July 4, at the English Rose Restaurant.

They were brought on stage by the Bank’s Assistant Manager for Marketing and Research, Trevor Woodley, who said the pageant last year was a grand and successful affair, indicating his desire to see the upcoming one on August 8 up to the same high standard or even better. The girls’ response was: “We can top last year’s show.”

The competitors are as follows: Nashara Webster, 17, a Form 6B student at the Comprehensive School, whose goal is to become a Tourism Marketing Director. Her favourite subjects are chemistry and social studies and her hobbies include travelling and adventure.

Lovique Harrigan, 15, a Form 3B2 student who is good at maths and wants to be a paediatrician. Her hobbies include singing, dancing and shopping; Shareena Richardson, 15, who is in form 3A2, who likes Biology but wants to be a Financial Auditor. Her hobbies are singing, dancing, and modelling; Delvina Carty, 15, who is in Form 3A2. Her choice subjects are chemistry and physics, but she wants to be a Business Lawyer. Her hobbies are football, singing and dancing and playing the saxophone; Kericia Barry, 17 who, having left school, is undergoing job training in the Marketing and Accounting Department at the National Bank of Anguilla. She eventually wants to become a gynaecologist. Her hobbies include football and socialising. The other contestant, who was not present, is Shellya Rogers, a Comprehensive School student well-known for her stage performances.

The reigning Miss CCB Talent Teen is 16-year-old Olufunmike Banks-Devonish. She said the competitors were her friends and she offered her best wishes to them as they compete for the title.

The girls are at present being coached in such areas as motivation, interviewing, business ethics and cosmetic and beauty preparations. Their appearances on stage on August 8, will feature an evening wear presentation, a promotional speech talent display and a flower fan-fare.

Managing Director of Caribbean Commercial Bank, Preston Bryan, welcomed the contestants, wished them much success in the pageant show and commended Trevor Woodley for introducing the competition as one of CCB’s community sponsorship events. He spoke of the positive benefits of the pageant and noted that a number of former competitors and winners had gone on to achieve much educational success.

Festivals Coordinator, Fitzroy Tomlinson, was delighted to have the teen pageant as one of the attractive activities of the summer festival. He was grateful to CCB for its continuing sponsorship of the annual event, and to the young ladies for their participation in the competition.
